I took office as Director General of the NSB fully aware of the weight of responsibility to lead the Bureau to perform its duties concerning national security intelligence, presidential and VIP protection and cryptogram R&D. Undoubtedly, the task ahead is daunting given the global financial storm and the changing world economic order. Meanwhile, we are at a historic turning point where the formerly adversarial cross-Strait relationship is shifting to one that is characterized by competition and cooperation, which is making our job at the NSB more challenging than ever. That being said, my colleagues and I are determined to live up to the NSB tradition of excellence, a tradition that our predecessors endeavored to put together and carry on. With innovation, we will strive to deal with potential and existing threats, as well as opportunities that come with them; we will see crises as challenges to the wise and an opportunity for transformation.

National security work is about safeguarding our national interests. More specifically, our work requires us not only to identify and monitor national security threats but also to discern opportunities for greater national developments. The NSB therefore works hard to provide the government and our citizens with valuable information that enables them to think globally but act locally. To do this, the NSB team tries to be forward-thinking and take the initiative in performing its duties. In addition, it works in tandem with its numerous partners within the government to strengthen the national security network in the face of crises and risks at home and abroad, hoping to maximize opportunities and minimize threats.

National security work requires the trust of the people. In order to gain the public’s trust and support, men and women at the NSB are dedicated to forming a professional, confidential and law-abiding national security team that serves the top leadership regardless of their political affiliations. The NSB will try to play its role as information provider, guardian of national security and facilitator of national interests.

The NSB opens this website to the public in the belief that this will provide the people with a platform to interact with the NSB and it is with public participation that the NSB can contribute to the common cause of building our safe, secure and comfortable homeland. The NSB welcomes your input and recommendations.
